Majrity of fanciers in Tehran (capital of Iran) keep Tehrani High Flying Tumblers, mostly bred for endurance and competition. Today, one can find many different strains of this breed all over Tehran. These fanciers are called Eshghbaz (players of love) among themselves.

But you can also find fanciers who love color and markings in thier pigeons. They are called Nagshbaz (players of colors). They generally take the birds with nice colors and unique markings from other provinces and enhance the breed. I met a few in Tehran but the pictures I took in Tehran are all about the endurance High Flyers.

Unfortunately in y recent trip to Teharn, I found most fanciers have become feather merchants instead of keeping the birds for the love of the sport and the hobby.

They charge lots of money for their birds and in most cases are not honest.

You must be extremely careful when dealing with these folks. Go to people you know and trust. Even then there is no guarantee.

One evening in the month of Ramadan, I was invited to a dinner party given by a well known pigeon fancier in Shemirun (north Tehran) by the name of Hosain Senior.

When I arrived, I saw over 100 fanciers in this sport. I saw some old faces and old buddies who I used to hang with in the sport of flying pigeons long long time ago.

It was quite an evening as we spent over 10 hours talking about pigeons and old times.

They are a lot of good fanciers in Tehran who have been in this hobby for a long time.

They are honest competitors with lots of knowledge in the hobby and have developed their own strain of Tehrani High Flying Tumblers.
